Product Details
Zinc Borate 45% is an inorganic flame-retardant and smoke-suppressant additive, commonly used in polymers, rubber, paints, and coatings. It is typically supplied as a fine, white, odorless powder with good thermal stability and low solubility in water. The “45%” generally refers to the zinc oxide (ZnO) content present in the compound.
Zinc borate acts as a multifunctional additive, providing flame retardancy, anti-dripping properties, smoke suppression, and afterglow reduction in various materials. It works synergistically with other flame retardants such as aluminum hydroxide and antimony trioxide, enhancing overall fire resistance performance.
It is chemically stable, non-volatile, and environmentally safer compared to many halogenated flame retardants. Zinc borate also exhibits anti-fungal and anti-corrosive properties, making it useful in coatings and wood preservation applications.
Due to its fine particle size and dispersibility, it is widely used in plastics (PVC, polyolefins), rubber compounds, cable insulation, paints, adhesives, and sealants. It should be stored in a cool, dry environment in tightly closed containers to avoid moisture absorption and contamination.
