Product Details
Calcium Carbide 75% is an industrial-grade inorganic compound with the chemical formula CaC₂, typically supplied as grey to black solid lumps or granules. It is widely known for its ability to react vigorously with water to produce acetylene gas (C₂H₂), along with calcium hydroxide as a by-product.
This product contains approximately 75% active calcium carbide, with the balance consisting of inert materials and minor impurities. Due to its gas-generating property, it is extensively used in the production of acetylene gas for welding and cutting operations, as well as in chemical synthesis and metallurgical processes.
Calcium carbide is also used in steel desulfurization, manufacture of calcium cyanamide fertilizers, and certain organic chemical reactions. It is highly reactive with moisture and must be handled carefully to prevent uncontrolled gas evolution and fire hazards.
The material should be stored in airtight, moisture-proof containers in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from water, acids, and oxidizing agents. Due to its reactivity, calcium carbide requires strict handling precautions, including the use of protective equipment and avoidance of exposure to humidity.
