Product Details
Calcium Oxalate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula CaC₂O₄, commonly found in nature as a component of kidney stones and in many plants. It typically appears as a white, odorless, crystalline powder and exists in different hydrated forms, such as monohydrate (CaC₂O₄·H₂O) and dihydrate (CaC₂O₄·2H₂O).
The compound is insoluble in water and most organic solvents, but it can dissolve in strong mineral acids. It is chemically stable under normal conditions but decomposes upon heating to form calcium carbonate and carbon monoxide/carbon dioxide gases.
Calcium oxalate is widely used in analytical chemistry, particularly in the determination of calcium content, as well as in ceramics and material science. It is also used as a reference material and precipitating agent in laboratory processes.
Although naturally occurring, calcium oxalate is toxic if ingested in large quantities and may cause irritation to skin, eyes, and respiratory tract. It should be handled with appropriate safety precautions and stored in a cool, dry place in tightly closed containers.
