Calcium Sulphate Anhydrous

Calcium Sulphate Anhydrous is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula CaSO₄, appearing as a white, odorless, fine crystalline powder or granules. It is the water-free (anhydrous) form of gypsum, obtained by heating calcium sulphate dihydrate to remove its water of crystallization.

This compound is sparingly soluble in water and is chemically stable under normal environmental conditions. Due to its strong affinity for moisture, certain forms of anhydrous calcium sulphate are used as desiccants (drying agents) in laboratories and industrial processes.

Calcium sulphate anhydrous is widely used in construction materials, ceramics, and cement formulations, where it acts as a filler, binder, or setting regulator. In the food and pharmaceutical industries, it is used as a firming agent, anti-caking agent, and calcium source. It also finds applications in analytical chemistry and soil conditioning.

The product is generally non-toxic and safe to handle, though prolonged exposure to dust may cause mild irritation to the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract. It should be stored in a cool, dry place in tightly sealed containers to prevent moisture absorption and maintain its anhydrous nature.
